History
The Troia family has a tradition in gourmet food products beginning half way around the world, and dating back to the early 1900’s.
John’s grandfather Ignazio Troia provided for his young family by transporting artisan cheeses, olive oils and locally grown produce on a horse drawn wagon from Palermo Sicily back to the small fishing villages, where he would sell to the local vendors and patrons.
The Troia’s left Sicily, immigrating to Monterey, where Ignazio and his four sons, opened Troia’s Market in 1947.
One of the four sons Frank, (John’s father) soon left the grocery business, to make his mark in the local dairy industry. Frank mentored his own sons in the old world traditions, stressing a strong work ethic, and customer service.
In following family tradition, John and Pamela Troia opened Troia Dairy Distributing in January of 2001. Pamela’s background in sales and logistics rounds out John’s local roots and traditional family legacy.
